Director Deep C's Ministries
Hello, this is Steve Cruikshank, The newest member of the fishing for life team. I am now in my 7th month and I have had an exciting summer. I am also working on my Credentials to become a pastor which I believe God is calling me to do. All to better equip me for the harvest, who knows maybe I’ll have the opportunity to perform a marriage ceremony for one of the fishing for life kids some day! Anyways, this summer has been a great journey, below are just a few highlights of my core responsibilities and personal victories;
~Deep C’s Men’s Ministry is growing and growing! We hope to minister to these men and develop more leaders! We recently opened a South Metro Chapter and have some thoughts of launching regionally and this is the first step in doing so. We needed to see if our model would be duplicable and so far good things are happening with our South Chapter. I love nothing more than standing beside men on their Journey through life both spiritually and professionally.
~We have included our Deep C’s tournaments in our local lake events and have had good results. Combining the two has given us the opportunity to fish with kids in the morning (each man had to catch fish with a kid in the boat to be successful in his overall tournament weight) then go back out on our own in the afternoon for a couple hours with the goal of adding to our points. The man with the most combine points wins.
~We hosted 8 trout ponds, introducing ourselves to over 3000 kids/people. There is nothing funnier than watching grown men and women wading around inside the trout pond with a net trying to net out the trout after one of our trout ponds closes. It’s a sight no one should miss. We have now partnered with Von Hanson’s meat market to smoke our trout. We sell the smoked trout to make up the initial cost of buying the trout. Again this has been very successful.
~We had a successful Fish-A-Thon model again this year. 10 kids got excited about Fish-A-Thon through FFL's Core Ministries like Fish Fair, High C's Lake Events and GEM Camp. I made some great friendships with these kids that I hope will continue to grow into their adult lives.
~Reel-Em –In Program was also a home run this year as we partnered with all 126 Gander Mountain stores nationwide as well as Joe’s sporting goods, Thorne Brothers and Cabala’s. These partners send us old rods and reels to rebuild by the hundreds. We also partnered with Target, Cummins Diesel, Thorne Brothers, YMCA, Girl Scouts, and local sports teams to re build all those rods and reels. This happened in 4 separate rebuilding days where we rebuilt over 1000 fishing rods. These rods were then given out to groups that take kids fishing and at our Fish Fair.
-GEM was a great blessing to me. I had a wonderful time fishing with our GEM campers. I had the chance to talk about Jesus with 16 kids on 2 different GEM camps trips. I was amazed at how knowledgable these kids were both in fishing and the bible. I can't wait for Ox Lake Camp next year.
-Ministering to men out of addiction has brought me some extremely fruitful relationships. I’m not sure who has ministered to whom. I am very excited about growing closer with these men. I will have an opportunity to be added to the TCLI preaching roster.
